Also hegesoko 扮げ底, heragaeshi 箆返. The method of removing a ceramic tea caddy *chaire 茶入 from a potter's wheel. The term can also refer to the shape of the bottom of a tea caddy. When the clay tea caddy is removed from the potter's wheel by means of a thin board, the bottom retains marks made by the board. But when it is cut with a string and removed with a bamboo spatula there are no marks and the base is smooth. Board marks are found only on Chinese tea caddies, and are considered to be of aesthetic value to Japanese tea connoisseurs.
