itomarugawara 糸丸瓦

The smallest semi-circular tile, with a diameter of 7.5 cm. An eave end tile of this size decorated with a comma pattern is called itodomoe marugawara 糸巴丸瓦 or itodomoe 糸巴. A tile with a chrysanthemum motif is called itokiku marugawara 糸菊丸瓦. This is also 7.5 cm in diameter. Itomarugawara are used at the base of many built up ridges *irakagawara 甍瓦 and along the base of the corner ridge *sumi kudarimune 隅降棟. Example: Manpukuji *Daiyū hōden 萬福寺大雄宝殿 (1668) in Kyoto.
