Also called omodaruki 母垂木. A base rafter that extends outward from the roof framework, generally the eave purlin *gagyō 丸桁, and carries the horizontal flying rafter support *kioi 木負 on its outer ends in order to support the shorter flying rafters *hien daruki 飛檐垂木. In the Nara period base rafters were generally circular in cross section while flying rafters were rectangular.
