A standard height for a Buddhist statue. A variation of the *jōroku 丈六. Abbreviation of one jō 丈 and eight shaku 尺 (approximately 540 cm or 18 feet). 1 jō = 10 shaku: 1 shaku = 30 cm or 1 foot. Jōhachi images are seldom found in Japan, but the standing *Senju Kannon 千手観音 in Tōshōdaiji 唐招提寺 (late 8th century-early 9th century) is 538 cm tall and thought to have been based on this standard.
