Also called tenchi 天地 or jidai 地題. A part of the mounting of a hanging scroll *kakemono 掛物. The upper and lower portions of the mounting, bordering the central border fabric *chūberi 中縁. In the case of the formal mounting *honzon hyōgu 本尊表具, the jōge continues all the way around the edge of the scroll, providing an outer border to the chūmawashi 中廻し (the term for chūberi in this case) and is called *sōberi 総縁 rather than jōge. Cloth for the jōge can contain gold or be made of damask, figured cloth or plain woven cloth. The quality of cloth is usually somewhat lower than that used for the chūberi.
