Small diameter posts set between two pillars to support horizontal circular laths called kabemawatashi 壁間渡. The circular laths are inserted into holes made in the pillars. The posts and horizontal laths form a base for plaster layers applied to make a curtain wall. Example: Hōryūji Denpōdō 法隆寺伝法堂 (8th century) Nara.
