1　A lintel characteristic of gates called *kabukimon 冠木門. The lintel penetrates the gate posts and is secured by wedges called hanasen 鼻栓 (nose peg or plug). They are wedge-shaped pegs inserted through the lintel at right angles to the posts. Sometimes the lintel is set into notches cut into the gate posts and secured from beneath by a tenon and mortise, *hozo ほぞ, *hozoana ほぞ穴, and to a smaller, horizontal lintel called *magusa まぐさ. This lintel does not extend out beyond the posts.

2　A horizontal timber placed above the entrance of a dwelling in the Kansai 関西 region. The beam is not connected to the entrance posts but instead is supported by the posts *hōdate 方立 on either side. Examples: Sumiya Shimabara 角屋島原 (17th-19th century) in Kyoto; Yoshimura dwelling 吉村家住宅 (early 17th century) in Osaka.
