Boards or panels planed to a perfectly smooth surface and employed for ceilings or flooring. An example is a thin board inserted between crosspieces of Chinese style doors *sangarado (also read sankarado) 桟唐戸. Also used with stiles, door and window frames, or walls, so that the board or panel junctions become inconspicuous.
