General Terms

A neck-like part under a bulbous-topped post *giboshi 擬宝珠. It resembles the concave molding called *kurigata 繰型 found on three styles of bracket arms: the daibutsu style *daibutsuyō 大仏様; the Zen style *zenshūyō 禅宗様; and the so-called Japanese style *wayō 和様. Kakikubi was used from the beginning of the medieval period onward. The same shape appears on the spire *sōrin 相輪 of Kyōōgokokuji Gojū-no-tō 教王護国寺五重塔 (1644) in Kyoto, between the inverted bowl-shaped *fukubachi 伏鉢 and the flower-shaped support *ukebana 受花.
