A variation of *tenmokuyū 天目釉. A red-brown glaze which is often used on straight-sided conical tea bowls known as tenmoku ware *tenmoku jawan 天目茶碗. Tenmokuyū contains iron salts, tetsuen 鉄塩 which are oxidized when fired in a kiln and turn black. The red-brown shades of haiyū 灰釉 are produced when the iron content is high.
