Also sentenmon 旋転文. A spiral pattern used in drapery folds on Buddhist statues. Ridges, representing creases in the drapery, form coil shapes on the border of the hanging fabric. Most common in the early Heian period. A good example is found on the Yakushi Nyoraizō 薬師如来像, Gangōji 元興寺, Nara.
