Lit. one-way pull door. A single leaf sliding door that is pulled left and right to open and close. There are two sliding systems for this door. Usually the katabikido slides on top and bottom tracks along an interior or exterior wall surface. This allows the entrance to equal the full size of the door width. A single leaf door that slides completely into a pocket within the wall itself can allow a full size open entrance and is called hikikomido 引込戸. Sliding windows katabikimado 片引窓 or translucent sliding screens *katabikishōji 片引障子 may also be constructed using this system.
