kinezuka 杵束

Also called tōkyōzuka 東京束. A strut that bulges out at top and bottom. The term is derived from a long-handled pestle used for pounding, kine 杵. Such struts are used in the roof framework of some farmhouses, nōka 農家. Also the king posts *shinzuka 真束, in such houses often have the same shape.
