Also called tokomaedatami 床前畳. Lit. a nobleman's tatami. A straw mat *tatami 畳, which was placed exactly in front of the alcove *tokonoma 床の間, in a tea ceremony room *chashitsu 茶室. Usually it was reserved for noblemen or dignitaries. Guests of honor who were neither nobleman nor dignitaries were not supposed to use this seat. Example: Hōsensai 抛筌斎 at Urasenke 裏千家 in Kyoto.
