In the 10th to 12th century, an earthen floored passageway that was a continuation of a floored connecting corridor, watarirō 渡廊. Found in shinden style *shinden-zukuri 寝殿造 and temple architecture. The usually leads to the gardens. Modern versions of kirimedō often have a removable boardwalk made of planks spaced and laid at right angles to lengthwise supports.
