Treatise on Native Painting. A short 18th century essay on painting by Confucian scholar and education reformer Hirazawa Kyokuzan 平沢旭山 (1733-91). Written in 1788, Kokugaron defends *Kano-ha 狩野派 painting as well as its Chinese and Muromachi period Japanese antecedents in literati styles incorporated in *nanga 南画. Kyokuzan gives a rather confused argument about the development of styles in China and Japan in defense of Kano academism. It is published in Sakazaki Tan 坂崎坦, ed. Nihongaron taikan 日本画論大観.
