Also kōkyakubu 光脚部, *ukebana 受花. A part of the nimbus *kōhai 光背 on a Buddhist image. The kōkyaku is the lowest section, forming a horizontal base which supports the nimbus. Designs made up of a series of lotus petals, leaves, or sea grass *sōmon 藻文 are common. A good example can be seen on the Yakushi nyoraizō 薬師如来像 (8th-9th century) in Shōjōji 勝常寺, Fukushima Prefecture.
