Type of screen similar to *makura byōbu 枕屏風 in format. They were slightly taller, about 60 cm high, or about as high as a person's hips, koshi 腰. In the 15th-16th century, a time of rampant civil wars, this low type of byōbu was placed behind a host when guests were received, reassuring them that no one was hiding behind the screen.
