Sculpture
Fine-cutting, the third stage in the making of a wooden sculpture. Following timber-cutting *kidori 木取 and rough-cutting *arabori 荒彫, the shape of the sculpture is defined and its surface is smoothed. Kozukuri is followed by the finishing stage, known as shiage 仕上げ. Sculptures which are left in their rough-cut or fine-cut state without the finishing stage are known as *natabori 鉈彫.
