Lit. rotted wood pattern. A decorative design pattern which resembles the grain of rotting wood. It is also considered by some to resemble the *suhamagata 洲浜形 pattern placed on end. Also it might be mistaken for a cloud pattern, though it doesn't fade or overlap as a cloud pattern would. From the Heian period it was woven, dyed, or printed on curtains, tobari 帳 or katabira 帷, awnings horo 幌, rattan blinds *sudare 簾, screens kichō 几帳 and silk room dividers *kabeshiro 壁代. It is found on kichō and kabeshiro in Kyoto Gosho 京都御所.
