Staggered embankments. A castle-wall design where the left and right embankments *doi 土居 beside the castle entrance *koguchi 虎口 do not form a straight line; one embankment juts out in front of the gate. The Yotsuya 四谷 and Akasaka 赤坂 gates of Edojō 江戸城 had cross-over embankments of this type.
