Also kunsu, kunshi 裙子, mo 裳. A skirt-like garment covering the lower part of a Buddhist priest's body from the hips down, and found on Buddhist images. Often used as an under-garment, and covered by an outer robe *kesa 袈裟, especially on *nyorai 如来 figures. On *bosatsu 菩薩 and *myōō 明王 images, however, the kun is worn with the upper body exposed except for an ornamental scarf.
