A large ripsaw with a blade about 60 cm long and 40 cm wide. It was first introduced in the 15th century and was used until recently to cut the thin planks used in wooden ceiling construction. The cutting teeth face forward, thus the saw cuts with a pushing action, not a pulling stroke. The maebiki oga is operated by a single carpenter, unlike the *oga 大鋸, which requires two craftsmen to work together.
