Also 孫庇; matabisashi 又庇, 又廂. Lit. "grandchild aisle." A narrow additional aisle. Traditional buildings, especially temples and some shrine buildings, have a central core *moya 母屋 and on one to four sides an additional aisle called *hisashi 廂. The use of magobisashi also appear in the shinden style buildings *shinden-zukuri 寝殿造 of the aristocracy. Example: Kakurinji Taishidō 鶴林寺太子堂 (1113), Hyōgo Prefecture. After the end of the 13th century, when new styles and new methods of construction were introduced from China, the magobisashi was rarely employed.
