Ch: manhuahui. Lit. "gathering amid myriad flowers." A Chinese painting subject showing the peony procession of Yangzhou 揚州 (Jp: Yōshū 揚州). Because Yangzhou was known for beautiful peonies, the governor Cai Fanqing (Jp: Sai Hankyō 蔡繁卿) organized a huge civic event in which the people of the city, all holding flowers, gathered in a central location. The theme was rendered in late 16th-century fan paintings (for example at Nanzenji 南禅寺, Kyoto) by *Kanō-ha 狩野派 artists.
