Also written 丸窓, also called yoshinomado 吉野窓. A window which is circular or a circular window with a flat bottom edge. There are many varieties of round windows. Some are cut into a wall and are finished with, lattice inserted into the wall material. Some have either sliding or hanging *shōji 障子. The sliding shōji may be single- or double-paneled. If the round window is over 1.5 m in diameter, it is called ōmarumado 大丸窓 or 大円窓. It does not have a lath backing and is used to view nature and for lighting. Marumado are found in the shoin style *shoin-zukuri 書院造 and in tea architecture. Example: Daigoji Sanbōin Shōgetsutei 醍醐寺三宝院松月亭 in Kyoto.
