To expose the whole wale or rib next to the binding on a straw mat *tatami 畳. In a tea ceremony room *chashitsu 茶室, a mat with an exposed wale is positioned in such a way as to be clearly seen. If the whole wale is not exposed, it is a called half-wale *hanme 半目, ōkirime 大切目 or ōme 大目.
