Also keshō-ita 化粧板. A flat, sheathing board attached to the underside of the eaves of a wooden dwelling. The sheathing closes the space that spans from beneath the purlin *keta 桁 that extends outward somewhat beyond the wall, to the end of the eaves, beyond which there is usually a rain gutter *amaochi 雨落.
