A type of mounting for a hanging scroll *kakemono 掛物. A minchō 明朝 is an edging or border attached to the outside edges of the right and left vertical strips, hashira 柱 or heri 縁 of mounting. The minchō style is used for the semi-formal dōhoe 幢ほえ *mikiri hyōgu 見切表具 mounting. A variation occurs when the left and right hashira extend into the area of the upper and lower fabrics *jōge 上下, thus running vertically along the outside edges of the mounting from top to bottom. This variation is called a futominchō shitate 太明朝仕立. When this mounting is narrow, it is called a renshitate 聯仕立. When the jōge and the right and left hashira are the same color, a hosomi 細見 or hosogane 細金, a thin 1.5-2.1 millimeter wide thread or line, is inserted between sections. There are also cases when hosomi are inserted even when the sections are different colors. When the mounting contains a wide hashira, a thin minchō may be used.
