Pictures depicting shows of acrobatics, jugglers, magic tricks and curious animals which were produced with intent to publicize an event. Misemono-e are included with multi-colored prints *nishiki-e 錦絵, two-color prints *benizuri-e 紅摺絵, ink-printed advertisements *hikifuda 引札 which were distributed throughout the entertainment districts and in the cities, and inside the illustrated souvenir booklets *ehon banzuke 絵本番付 which were sold at *kabuki 歌舞伎 performances.
