An incantation in esoteric Buddhism to purify and sanctify *misogi 御衣木, the wood used for Buddhist images. The ceremony is held on an auspicious day, usually in a temple hall. After placing the sacred wood in the proper position, priests sprinkle it with water and inscribe it with Sanskrit characters. Finally, the sculptor makes the first cut with his consecrated axe.
