Ch: Mao Bao zhugui. Lit. "Mao Bao rescuing a tortoise." A Chinese painting theme showing the Jin dynasty scholar Mao Bao buying a tortoise from some boys in order to set it free. The didactic subject which stresses benevolence to all things was painted infrequently, but could be matched with both themes of Chinese children *karakoasobi 唐子遊 and Chinese scholars. The screens *fusuma 襖 at Myōshinji Tenkyūin 妙心寺天球院 by Kano Sansetsu 狩野山雪 (1589-1651) are one good example.
