mukōdome 向留

One part of the joint used when eaves supports *kayaoi 茅負 or flying rafter supports *kioi 木負 come together at a corner. Because the corners, called *shihōkorobi 四方転, slope at angles other than the usual 90° a simple 45° mitered joint *tome 留 cannot be employed. The mukōdome line is cut along the vertical surface at the corner and is the reverse slope of the medial line of the rafter incline. The uwabatome 上端留 line is the reversed slope line that shows at the top where the two parts are joined.
