Also called mekurashikii 盲敷居, *mume 無目, nume 滑, or mume kamoi 無目鴨居. Lit. "blind sill." A sill without tracks. Used, for example, to cover the underside of a suspended wall. A small wall in an alcove *tokonoma 床の間, is often open above floor level, and the wall itself is frequently plastered on its inner side. The mume shikii is a flat strip of thin wood, a small log or bamboo used to finish the narrow underside, about 1 cm wide.
