Also pronounced kyōkō. A protective breast-plate found on Buddhist guardian deities *ten 天. The shape varied considerably. The front edges were often fastened with a cord in the shape of the character '人' or '十', a trend which became popular in the Heian period. A good example of the munagō can be seen on the wooden Bishamontenzō 毘沙門天像 in Jōruriji 浄瑠璃寺, Kyoto.
