Records name six generations of sculptors dating back to Jōchō 定朝 (?-1057), followed by Kakujo 覚助, Raijo, Kōjo, and Seichō 成朝. In the late 12th century, the Kōfukuji workshop became well-known for the influential sculptors Kōkei 康慶, Unkei 運慶 (?-1223) and Kaikei 快慶, whose school became known as *Kei-ha 慶派.
