Also sudare shōji 簾障子. Sliding screens *shōji 障子, that are replaced by matchstick screens *sudare 簾, during the summer. Various kinds of reeds are used including ditch reed, pampas grass and cat's-tails. These reeds are set into shōji frames instead of paper. Natsushōji filter sunlight, allow breezes to circulate easily and provide a high degree of privacy.
