Lit. "ascending eave hanging tiles." The semi-cylindrical tiles *marugawara 丸瓦, and broad concave tiles hiramarugawara 平丸瓦, laid from the bottom to the top along the upward curves of rooms on both sides of the gables *tsuma 妻, and bargeboards *hafu 破風. These tiles are also called *karakusagawara 唐草瓦, even if they are not decorated with arabesque patterns *karakusamon 唐草文.
