General Terms
1 A penetrating tie beam that extends from one pillar to another inside a temple or shrine building. It has various names depending on its placement. See *hinuki 飛貫, *koshinuki 腰貫, and *jinuki 地貫.
2 A penetrating tie beam which is the lowest horizontal member on a Shinto gateway *torii 鳥居. The tie beam is usually held in place by wedges *kusabi 楔, pounded into the pillars on their upper surfaces although wedges are not used on *shinmei torii 神明鳥居 or on *kashima torii 鹿島鳥居.
