1 A fireproof building in which all the timber surfaces of the structural members were entirely covered externally by mud daub *tsuchikabe 土壁 and plaster *shikkui 漆喰. The fireproofing system was called *ōkabe-zukuri 大壁造 or *nuriya-zukuri 塗屋造.
2 The term is occasionally applied to buildings constructed using the *dozō-zukuri 土蔵造 method of construction.
3 An alternative term for *nuriya tenjō 塗屋天井 used in northern Shikoku 四国.
