Also called wadaruki 輪垂木. An open ceiling found in Buddhist temples of the Ōbaku 黄檗 sect. The architectural style of these temples was strongly influenced by the late Ming and early Ching dynasties. The ceiling in the open colonnade across the front of the temple has an arrangement of undulating rafters karahafu daruki 唐破風垂木 that resemble ribs. This Zen 禅 sect was introduced to Japan by Chinese priests in the mid 17th century. Example: Manpukuji *Daiyū hōden 萬福寺大雄宝殿 (1668), Kyoto.
