Roofing Tiles

Also called onigawaradai 鬼瓦台, oni-itadai 鬼板台. The base material on the ridge ends of the main roof of a temple or other traditional building upon which the ogre tiles *onigawara 鬼瓦 are set. On older buildings onidai is an adhesive, generally mud, used to set regular and flat tiles. Originally, boards were used with tiled roofs, but when the roofing is made of wood, shingles boards are still placed under the clay ogre tile.
