Also masugami otoko 十寸髪男. Noh masks *nōmen 能面 of male spirit or god. A *mikazuki 三日月 derivative, it has gaunt features with thin skin tightly pulled over broad cheekbones and pointed chin, but the overall expression is more stunned than mikazuki: the round metallic eyes stare wildly, the loose hair falls thinly over the forehead, the eyebrows swerve in a broad arch over the eye socket bones and the nostrils flare open. Particularly unusual are the widely spaced teeth bared by a tight smile and tinted gold. Otoko masugami is generally used for thwarted lovers, such as appear in Nishikigi 錦木 (Brocade Tree), Funabashi 船橋 (The Floating Bridge) or Matsumushi 松虫 (Pine Cricket).
