A tea ceremony encyclopedia based on the methods of Katagiri Sekishu 片桐石州 (1605-73), who is believed to have authored 300 articles on tea ceremony regulations and presented them to Shogun Tokugawa Ietsuna 徳川家綱 (1641-80). Later, his disciples gathered together, it is believed, and provided explanations for its various dictates and published them in the late 17th century. There are many similar books with erroneous copying errors and omissions. Among them, the Mujūshō 無住抄, which is said to have been annotated by Mujūken Ryōa 無住軒了阿, a leading disciple of priest Ikei 怡渓 (1644-1714). It is well ordered, and seems to have been the parent book for other popular editions. The Chadō kotenzenshū 茶道古典全集, a collection of classics on tea, included a copy of the Mujūshō, now owned by the National Diet Library, and entitled Sekishū sanbyakukajō. The original text consists of 3 volumes, each containing 100 articles. Subjects include: the spirit of tea ceremony, old practices, implements, tea gardens, tearooms and flowers. A considerable number of illustrations are included.
