Also called seridashi 迫出, seriage 迫上. Lit. "trap" or "trap door." A platform on which actors or some types of large stage scenery are raised up to or lowered down from the *kabuki 歌舞伎 stage. A large trap door is called ōzeri 大迫, a middle sized one is called nakazeri 中迫 and a small one, kozeri 小迫. A very small scale device like this was also used for the puppet theater. Until the modern era (end of the 19th century and early 20th century) it was operated manually.
