Lit. "Buddhas of the four directions water basin." A type of water basin made from reused objects *mitatemono chōzubachi 見立物手水鉢, made of the body *tōshin 塔身 of multi-stored pagodas *sōtō 層塔 or stone pagodas *hōkyōintō 宝筺印塔. The oval or square tōshin usually has four images of Buddha or Sanskrit characters carved into its sides. Because it is small, the shihōbutsu chōzubachi is often placed on a stone base.
