Also called nijū chigaidana 二重違い棚. Double staggered shelves of the shoin style *shoin-zukuri 書院造. A strut *ebizuka 海老束, extends from the inner end of the lowest shelf through the ends of the two middle shelves and is attached to the bottom of the top shelf. There is an ornamental piece called a brushstop *fudegaeshi 筆返し, placed at the inner end of the top shelf. There are sliding door cabinets attached to the ceiling across the width of the alcove.
