Plain, unembellished flower petals used especially to decorate the pendants *gatō 瓦当, of semi-cylindrical, eave-end roof tiles *nokimarugawara 軒丸瓦, fired during the 7th-8th century. They became progressively rare during the 9th-10th century and rarer still during the latter Heian period. Soben then disappeared.
