Storehouses
A *dozō 土蔵 type of storehouse flanking the main shop *misegura 店蔵 or town house *machiya 町家 in towns in the Kantō 関東 region, such as Kawagoe 川越, Saitama Prefecture. Its roof ran at right angles to the house, so that it presented its gable end to the street. The sodegura was usually situated to the north or west of a shop building, where it helped to protect the main structure from fires borne on the prevailing wind. It was used to store merchandise.
