Also read sugiharagami and abbreviated to suihara or sui. Handmade Japanese paper *washi 和紙 produced in Suihara 杉原 Valley in Harima 播磨 (now Hyōgo Prefecture). A fine, pliable paper made from mulberry fibres (see *choshi 楮紙) which is thinner than *hōsho 奉書. Widely used from the end of Heian period until the Edo period by samurai 侍 families as gifts, and for official documents.
